Proposal
REAR: ONE Lombardy Poplar (T1)(ht.17m) CROWN REDUCE HEIGHT by 5m from 17m to 12m, spread by 2m from 6m to 4m, CROWN THIN by 25 % Reason: reduction on all laterals and verticals, back to appropriate growth points, previously reduced, part of regular maintenance. REAR: ONE Lombardy Poplar (T2)(ht.10m) FELL. Reason: permission to fell was granted in 2017 (DC/17/104017) due to large basal decay cavity but works not carried out. Replanting proposed with an Acer within the rear garden. Informative A: the replacement tree is greatly appreciated, suggest such as Paperbark maple (Acer griseum), rather than Acer japonica which is prone to leaf scorch, other suitable species are such as: crab apple, hawthorn, Laburnum, pear (Pyrus communis), quince (Cydonia oblonga), hazel, Amelanchier, Magnolia Kobus, elder. Informative B: huge thank you for retaining T1 for amenity, wildlife, to reduce air pollution and to provide shade to reduce increasingly high summer temperatures due to climate change. Informative C: please leave a safe standing trunk of T2 and create habitat log piles with some arisings for wildlife and biodiversity. Informative D: The Bat Conservation Trust advises checking thoroughly for roosting bats before and during tree works with soft fell process followed to proceed with care and with cut timber left grounded over night to allow any bats to make their way out, tree works ideally during Sept/Oct to avoid maternity and hibernation seasons when bats are most vulnerable to disturbance.

REAR: FIVE dead Leyland Cypress (T1-T5)(ht.3m) FELL. Duty to replace applies with species to be agreed with council - see Informative B below. Reason: dead monoliths, trees were cut down without permission by someone else some years back and are now decaying monoliths. Informative A: Duty to replace - the landowner has a duty to plant another tree of an appropriate size and species when a tree is removed in a conservation area because it is dead or presents an immediate risk of serious harm. Ref. Tree Preservation Orders and trees in conservation areas, guidance, para 121. Informative B: Replacement planting - 3 trees selected from: crab apple, quince, medlar, mulberry, pear, hazel, hawthorn to replace amenity, wildlife habitat and shade to reduce increasingly high summer temperatures due to climate change. Informative C: please create habitat log piles with some arisings for wildlife and biodiversity.

FRONT: THREE Lime (T1,T2,T3)(ht.7-8m) carefully re pollard the crown back to old points aproximately 3 metres of regrowth FRONT: ONE hornbeam (T4)(ht.8m) reduce the overall size of crown by 3 metres. These trees are causing excessive shading

DC/26/144936 Granted
12 PRINCETHORPE ROAD, LONDON, SE26 4PF
REAR: ONE Lombardy Poplar (T1)(ht.16m) CROWN REDUCE by 10-11m to ht.5-6m, REDUCE SPREAD from 10m to 5m to create new pollard. Reason: multi-stemmed tree has had a major stem failure exposing large cavity approx.2m above gd level. Remaining stem above cavity is weighted towards neighbouring properties and a crown reduction to reduce weight and sail above cavity is urgently needed to minimise risk of future failures. Merely reducing the one stem would drastically change the balance of the overall canopy and exposure to wind would be likely to cause more failures on the remaining stems. Crown reduction is required for safety to reduce overall canopy to approximately 5-6m from ground level (please see annotated photo) to create a new pollard. Informative A: thank you for managing the tree by safe reduction to retain as a low pollard for rear amenity, wildlife and canopy shade to reduce heatwave temperatures due to climate change. Informative B: please create habitat log piles with arisings for wildlife and biodiversity.
