FRONT (Queensthorpe Rd): ONE Ash(T1)(ht13m) FELL. Reason given: Terminally affected by Ash Dieback (Hymenoscyphus fraxineus), exhibiting severe structural instability & visible tilting. Located in very close proximity to the building, neighbouring wall, & driveway, posing imminent risk to property and persons. Species is unsuitable for confined spaces and restricted rooting environment, creating future structural risk. Tree is suppressed, leaning, & roots are raised girdled, compromising long-term stability. Would require cyclical pruning to prevent direct damage ? impractical and unsafe. SIDE (Queensthorpe Rd) : ONE Conifer/Cypress (T2)(ht.12m) FELL. Reason given: Located close to the garage, with a high likelihood of structural damage if retained. Fast-growing species, unsuitable for pruning or shaping. Causes heavy shading of surrounding property and land. Limited safe useful life expectancy in this location. Applicant's Public Safety Statement: The works are urgently required to mitigate the risk of tree failure, which could cause serious injury to persons or damage to property. The trees' current condition presents a foreseeable hazard, and the Council is now fully aware of the associated risk. (ref DC/25/141755) Informative A: a heave risk assessment is advised before tree works are undertaken due to proximity with adjacent property no.2 Queensthorpe Road. Informative B: the Bat Conservation Trust advises checking thoroughly for roosting bats before and during tree works with soft fell process followed to proceed with care and with cut timber left grounded over night to allow any bats to make their way out, tree works ideally during Sept/Oct to avoid maternity and hibernation seasons when bats are most vulnerable to disturbance. Informative C: please retain tree stumps as stumpery, leave timber lying on site, create habitat log piles and 'dead hedges' with arisings for wildlife and biodiversity to support local nature recovery.
