Planning application

149 PERRY VALE, LONDON, SE23 2JB

Granted Lewisham DC/24/136229 Trees in Conservation Areas

Works: Trees

Permission granted. Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses.

Proposal

REAR ONE Sycamore tree(T1)(ht. 16,)(w. 12m) POLLARD REDUCE HEIGHT by 6m fro 16m to 10m, RADIUS by 5m from 12m to 7m on all compass points. Reason: This is to manage the tree for safety as the new growth from the historic pollard is becoming elongated and needs to be maintained. Also to give more light to neighbours gardens directly behind the tree. Informative A: The sensitive management of the trees is greatly appreciated for landscape amenity, wildlife, wellbeing, and urban forest canopy for environmental benefits to mitigate the effects of climate change. Informative B: Wherever possible, please create habitat log piles in the garden from cut branches for wildlife and biodiversity.

REAR: ONE Ash pollard (T1)(ht.6m) FELL. Reason: mature Ash pollard stem starting to decay, close to the back of the house and neighbour's patio area. Informative A: the maintenance of vegetated gardens including the mature pollard stem (T1) for wildlife and biodiversity is greatly appreciated. Informative B: as dead and decaying timber is important for wildlife and biodiversity, please retain a safe standing stem or high stump of (T1) and leave the felled stem lying in the garden to continue to benefit wildlife and biodiversity especially for the endangered stag beetle which has a stronghold in SE London. Informative C: please also consider planting a replacement tree for urban greening, wildlife and environmental benefits such as crab apple, wayfaring tree, Magnolia Kobus or M. Loebneri, quince (Cydonia oblonga), Amelanchier, Orange-barked Myrtle (Myrtus apiculate), Seven-son tree, (Heptacodium miconioides), pear, mulberry, medlar, whitebeam, paperbark maple.

FRONT: THREE Lime (T1,T2,T3)(ht.7-8m) carefully re pollard the crown back to old points aproximately 3 metres of regrowth FRONT: ONE hornbeam (T4)(ht.8m) reduce the overall size of crown by 3 metres. These trees are causing excessive shading

    12 PRINCETHORPE ROAD, LONDON, SE26 4PF

REAR: ONE Lombardy Poplar (T1)(ht.16m) CROWN REDUCE by 10-11m to ht.5-6m, REDUCE SPREAD from 10m to 5m to create new pollard. Reason: multi-stemmed tree has had a major stem failure exposing large cavity approx.2m above gd level. Remaining stem above cavity is weighted towards neighbouring properties and a crown reduction to reduce weight and sail above cavity is urgently needed to minimise risk of future failures. Merely reducing the one stem would drastically change the balance of the overall canopy and exposure to wind would be likely to cause more failures on the remaining stems. Crown reduction is required for safety to reduce overall canopy to approximately 5-6m from ground level (please see annotated photo) to create a new pollard. Informative A: thank you for managing the tree by safe reduction to retain as a low pollard for rear amenity, wildlife and canopy shade to reduce heatwave temperatures due to climate change. Informative B: please create habitat log piles with arisings for wildlife and biodiversity.
