Planning application
22 BLACKHEATH RISE, LONDON, SE13 7PN
Permission granted. Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses.
Proposal
REAR: ONE Oak (T1)(ht.12m) FELL and replace. Reason: located on top of a retaining wall 5m from rear of house, retaining wall is cracked to north and south of the tree, likely as a result of pressure from the oak trees expanding root system and incremental growth of the trunk, the tree will continue to grow, retaining wall will require remedial repair work, frequent crown reduction is required to maintain clearance from roof to prevent squirrel access to roof space and causing damage. Re-planting is proposed with a tree species more suited to the location, e.g. field maple (Acer campestre), Wild Service Tree Sorbus torminalis, or Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna). Informative A: the voluntary replacement tree planting with either a field maple (Acer campestre), or Wild Service Tree (Sorbus torminalis) or other native larger canopy tree within the garden is greatly appreciated to maintain the treed character of gardens in the Blackheath conservation area, for amenity, wildlife, and to maintain the urban forest canopy as required by The London Plan 2021 for 10% uplift of London's tree canopy by 2050. Informative B: where possible source a use for the oak trunk timber locally for furniture making or other wood crafts, and within the rear garden create habitat log piles, bury logs vertically in the ground 'Giants Causeway style' for stag beetle habitat, and lay cut branches between stakes as linear 'dead hedge' for wildlife and biodiversity.
