Planning application

53 MAYOW ROAD, LONDON, SE23 2XH

Granted Lewisham DC/21/124770 Tree Preservation Order

Works: Trees

Permission granted. Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses.

Proposal

FRONT: ONE Oak (T1, T4 in TPO)(approx.ht.11m, r.6m) FELL to 2ft (0.75m) stump and replace with high amenity species. Reason: dead bark around 30% of low stem, sparse crown foliage and dead twigs indicate tree is in decline, with impaired physiological health, adjacent to a busy road, the tree is a hazard to public. The London Borough of Lewisham (Mayow Road/Queenswood Road) Tree Preservation Order, 1983. Condition 3 (see decision notice for full replanting details): replacement for the oak for streetscape amenity to be selected from: native oak (Quercus robur, Q, petraea), Turkey oak (Quercus cerris), small leaved lime, hornbeam, Robinia, field maple, wild service tree, walnut, Indian horse chestnut, Judas tree, Tulip tree, wingnut, Koelreuteria paniculata, Japanese pagoda tree, alder, sweet chestnut. Informative A: the previous sensitive management to retain the oak tree for streetscape amenity, urban forest canopy/urban greening, wellbeing, wildlife, environment and to mitigate the climate and biodiversity emergencies is greatly appreciated. Informative B: the planting of a replacement tree is hugely welcomed for amenity, wildlife and environmental benefits to the Mayow Road area. Informative C: where possible please retain safe standing dead timber, leave timber lying in situ and create log and wood piles on site with the cut branches for wildlife habitat and biodiversity. Informative D: protect the rooting environment of trees by avoiding hard surfacing and ground level changes. Use 50mm depth bark mulch keeping clear from main stem, to ensure gaseous exchange and rain water percolation. Informative E: the council currently has no evidence of confirmation of the TPO made in 1983.
