REAR: ONE Sycamore (T1) (ht.10m) FELL. Reason: the sycamore tree is affecting the fence line and a new fence needs to be installed. REAR: ONE Sycamore (T2)(ht.10-11m) POLLARD at approximately 7 metres above ground level. Reason: to improve and reform crown as branches were damaged when a large dominant Oak tree fell over. Informative A: the retention of sycamore T2 is greatly appreciated as rear garden trees between Lampmead and Brightfield Roads contribute to the linear green corridor along the River Quaggy for wildlife and public amenity benefit. Informative B: a replacement tree and/or shrubs would be hugely appreciated for linear landscape amenity and habitat connectivity beside the River Quaggy, species such as alder, goat willow, elder, birch, hazel, hawthorn, blackthorn, dogwood, Alder Buckthorn, guelder rose, bird cherry, wild service tree. Informative C: where possible retain lying felled timber and create habitat log piles for biodiversity. Informative D: in the new fence please include hedgehog holes or use concrete gravel boards with preformed hedgehog holes to benefit wildlife connectivity: https://www.wildlifetrusts.org/actions/how-create-hedgehog-hole

I'm seeking advice on a large sycamore tree which is between the end of my garden (46 Brightfield Road) and the River Quaggy. According to recorded land registry drawings, the tree isn't on my property but I'm not clear if the river & the river bank are maintained by the Council. Over the last 2-3 weeks, a number of big branches have snapped off. The branches are getting increasingly larger with the latest being 1.5 stories tall. I suspect the tree (and other trees along the river bank), need urgent work to ensure more serious damage or injury doesn't occur. I also think the trees play a role in holding up the river bank. I have attached images of the tree, the latest fallen branch and a map of the location of the tree. I'd be grateful for a response as soon as possible about 1) tree ownership and 2) a possible 5 day notice for tree management

Merely reducing the one stem would drastically change the balance of the overall canopy and exposure to wind would be likely to cause more failures on the remaining stems. Informative A: thank you for managing the tree by safe reduction to retain as a low pollard for rear amenity, wildlife and canopy shade to reduce heatwave temperatures due to climate change.
