What a grant of permission means
The process from here
Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.
Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.
About householder applications
How this application type works
Householder applications cover work to an existing house and its garden: extensions, loft and garage conversions, porches, outbuildings and similar alterations within the boundary of the home. They cannot be used to create a separate dwelling or change what the building is used for. Councils aim to decide them within eight weeks, and immediate neighbours are usually notified and given a chance to comment.

T1 Box Elder Maple (Acer negundo): Reduce the crown by approximately 25%, equating to approximately 2 metres from the height and radial spread, leaving a finished height of approximately 6 metres and a finished radial spread of approximately 3.5 metres. Crown to be reshaped to form a balanced, natural outline and remove any major deadwood and crossing or rubbing branches in accordance with BS3998:2010. If the tree is larger, another realistic option would be: Finished height: 8 metres Finished radial spread: 4.5 metres Justification: The subject tree has suffered the loss of multiple limbs and displays evidence of recent branch failure, resulting in an unbalanced crown and reduced structural integrity. The loss of these limbs has increased loading on the remaining scaffold branches and unions, creating an elevated risk of further branch failure if left unmanaged. The proposed works will rebalance the crown, reduce excessive end weight on the remaining limbs, remove torn and damaged branches, and improve light penetration through selective crown thinning. These remedial works will reduce mechanical stress on the tree, promote good wound occlusion, and assist in retaining the tree safely for the long term whilst preserving its amenity value in accordance with BS3998:2010 ? Tree Work ? Recommendations.
