HABERDASHERS ASKES HATCHAM GIRLS SCHOOL, JERNINGHAM ROAD, LONDON, SE14 5NY

Granted Lewisham DC/19/114600 Trees in Conservation Areas

Works: Trees

Relates to DC/19/113434

Permission granted. Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses.

Proposal

FRONT: ONE Chestnut (T9)(ht.17m, twin-stemmed) HEIGHT REDUCTION by 5m from 17m to 12m, LATERAL REDUCTION by 0.5m from approx.radius 4m-5m to approx.radius 3.5m-4.5m on all compass points. Reason: compression fork between main stems, high risk location within school playground. REAR: ONE Sycamore (T10) HEIGHT REDUCTION by 4m from 16m to 12m, LATERAL REDUCTION by approx.1-2m to 4m on all compass points. Remove ivy (exempt works). Reason: neighbour complaints from overhanging branches and shade issues. NB.FRONT: ONE London Plane (T8)(T5 in TPO) Remove dead branch. Reason: overhanging road, health and safety (exempt works - TPO approval already granted within DC/19/113434 dated 30/08/2019). Informative: T10 sycamore - a lesser crown reduction for minimal pruning wounds and to retain aesthetic value is encouraged if there are no underlying safety issues, as the tree appears to be well formed, high canopied and not previously reduced.

Remove dead ivy (exempt works). Reason: tree encroaching neighbouring rear gardens and overhangs school roof. REAR: ONE Foxglove Tree, Paulonia (T6)(T16 Catalpha in TPO) (ht.4.7m, r 3-5m) FELL. REAR: ONE Willow (T1) FELL (basal and lower stem decay, close to property). Informative: there is a duty to plant a replacement tree with a 5 Day Notice. However while replacement trees are welcomed, on this occasion a replacement tree will not be required due to the proximity of the tree to the property and the existing well-treed nature of the rear garden. The rear garden backs onto the railway line which is designated a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC) and which connects to The New Cross Nature Reserve to the south ? both sites are designated in the Local Plan. Garden greening enhancement includes shade tolerant ground cover plants, shrubs, climbers and plants for pollinators and de-paving.

    12 PRINCETHORPE ROAD, LONDON, SE26 4PF

REAR: ONE Lombardy Poplar (T1)(ht.16m) CROWN REDUCE by 10-11m to ht.5-6m, REDUCE SPREAD from 10m to 5m to create new pollard. Reason: multi-stemmed tree has had a major stem failure exposing large cavity approx.2m above gd level. Remaining stem above cavity is weighted towards neighbouring properties and a crown reduction to reduce weight and sail above cavity is urgently needed to minimise risk of future failures. Merely reducing the one stem would drastically change the balance of the overall canopy and exposure to wind would be likely to cause more failures on the remaining stems. Crown reduction is required for safety to reduce overall canopy to approximately 5-6m from ground level (please see annotated photo) to create a new pollard. Informative A: thank you for managing the tree by safe reduction to retain as a low pollard for rear amenity, wildlife and canopy shade to reduce heatwave temperatures due to climate change. Informative B: please create habitat log piles with arisings for wildlife and biodiversity.
