FRONT to Lee Terrace: ONE Pollard POPLAR (T1) FELL. Reason: This tree is T2 in 5 day exemption notice DC/19/112927 ? granted 04/07/2019 to remove the large dead top. Further inspection has revealed the tree is approx. 90% hollow to the ground with insufficient sound holding wood to retain. Voluntary replacement tree proposed. FRONT to Lee Terrace: ONE Pollard POPLAR (T2) FELL. Reason: climbing inspection of the large stem cavity approx.6m above ground level reveals the tree is 90% hollow to the base with insufficient sound holding wood to retain for the future. Voluntary replacement tree proposed. Informative: The offer of replacement trees for the poplars is greatly welcomed with thanks as this will retain the tree lined boundary character and street amenity of Lee Terrace. The preferred trees are larger canopy species, not fastigiate forms, such as small leaved lime (Tilia cordata), sweet chestnut (Catanea sativa), tulip tree (Liriodendron tulipifera), walnut (Juglans regia), sessile oak (Quercus petraea), sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus), hornbeam (Carpinus betulus), Indian horse chestnut (Aesculus indica), disease resistant elm, beech (Fagus sylvatica).

FRONT: ONE Pollard Poplar (T1)(approx.ht. 8-10m) FELL. Reason: Dead, Rotten and dangerous. Duty to replace applies. FRONT: ONE Pollard Poplar (T2) CROWN REDUCE by approx. 4m from approx.ht.8-10m to approx.ht. 5-6m. Reason: 50% dead, crown reduce to live growth on main stem for retrenchment and to make safe. Informative - duty to replace: the owner has a duty to plant another tree of an appropriate size and species at the same place as soon as he or she reasonably can if a tree in a conservation area is removed because it is dead or presents an immediate risk of serious harm. (Para 121 of Tree Preservation Orders and trees in conservation areas guidance.) Informative - deadwood: retain deadwood logs on site where possible for biodiversity and retain standing deadwood where safe as habitat for the nationally endangered stag beetle which has a strong hold in SE London.
