The trees are located in the rear garden of (137 Southgate Road), but part of the crown and overhanging branches extend into my garden at 135 Southgate Road (Please see attached photos and drawing). Tree 1 – (London Planetree, located at the rear boundary of the garden of 137 Southgate Road, with the crown and branches overhanging the garden of 135b Southgate Rd) Proposed Work: -Crown reduction of overhanging branches by up to 3.5 metres on the side extending over my garden (135b Southgate Rd). -Sympathetic reduction to maintain form and reduce weight on the union (he tree has two codominant stems), and preserve the health of the tree, all in accordance with best practice. -Removal of any dead or weakened limbs that overhang my property that pose a risk of falling Extent of Work: -Lateral reduction of overhanging branches by up to 3.5m, back to suitable growth points. -Removal of deadwood within the overhanging canopy area. Reason for Work: To improve safety and reduce the risk of falling branches causing injury or property damage. A previous large branch has already fallen from this tree and damaged a garden shed (see pictures). The heavy leaf fall and accumulation of dead branches also creates a slipping hazard and maintenance issues. The work is intended to reduce the risk to human safety and property while retaining the overall health and appearance of the tree. Tree 2 – (Also located in the garden of 137 Southgate Road, with the crown and branches overhanging the garden of 135a Southgate Rd) Proposed Work: -Prune back overhanging branches by up to 3.5 metres, focusing on limbs above seating and storage areas in the garden of 135a Southgate Road and close to the building of 135a and 135b Southgate Road. -Sympathetic reduction to maintain form, reduce weight on the union, and preserve the health of the tree, all in accordance with best practice. Extent of Work: -Selective pruning of lateral limbs that extend over the boundary, up to 3.5m, to suitable growth points. -Removal of any visible deadwood or weakened branches in this section. Reason for Work: To prevent injury or damage from falling limbs. Ongoing accumulation of debris poses a safety and maintenance issue. The pruning aims to mitigate these risks while preserving the tree's health and structure. The overall pruning will help manage leaf and debris fall, which has been excessive and creates seasonal hazards (e.g., blocked drains, slippery surfaces). Additional Notes: -The works will be done by a qualified and insured tree surgeon in line with BS3998 standards for tree work. -No works will affect the roots or trunk of the trees on the neighbour’s land. -The branches extending in to the garden of 135 Southgate road is facing away from the public street (Englefield Rd). Hence, reduction of branches with have little or no impact on the visual of the trees from the street.
