Awaiting decision Islington P2025/2480/TRE Tree Works Notification in Conservation Area

Works: Trees

Still open. Anyone can comment while the consultation period runs, and comments go to the council rather than to us.

Proposal

T1-T4 - Empress trees - Reduce crown height by c. 1.5-2 metres, and lateral growth by c. 2-2.5 metres. Lateral branches and limbs on the rail track side of the tree will be cut back from the existing rail infrastructure and deadwood removed throughout. It's likely that we will only be permitted to work for one night and it will require onsite supervision from a Controller of Site Safety (COSS). That night we will have 4-6 men on site including two climbers, 2 groundsmen and 1 COSS. An aerial rescuer and 2 first aiders will be on site. All tree works will be made in accordance with BS 3998-2010 to preserve the wellbeing of the trees. T5 - Unknown Species - Tree is dead and will be felled to ground level leaving a small stump (6-10 inches). Please note that this work will take place at night, subject to a possession order from Network Rail. Reason for works: Letter received from Network Rail instructing applicant to carry out tree works - have attached letter to application.

T1-T4 - Empress trees - Fell to ground level and replace with four ornamental trees. Trees are encroaching on Network Rail land and are in an unsuitable location. During a call with Paul Reville, Construction Manager in the Asset Protection Team at Network Rail, he stated that the trees have impacted the wall and the possible liability if that comes down is "monumental". Even if the trees are reduced, they would need to be maintained every 2-3 years under further possession orders, and this would put an unreasonable financial burden on the residents which are already stressed with the current situation.
