Planning application

Town Copse Town Lane Porchfield Isle Of Wight

Granted Isle of Wight 23/00153/TW Tree Works to TPO

Works: Trees

Permission granted. Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses.

Proposal

This application includes trees covered by TPOs and Conservation Area: Oak 1; Roadside mature tree with significant rot in bole to break of crown. Crown more or less limited to long lever arm branch over the road and small branch wood on bole. We wish to prune lever arm back to bole. Ride-side ash; there are numerous ash on the eastern boundary and on the trackside of the TPO that have ash dieback and lean over path. 18 show signs of significant dieback this year and need to be felled. We would like this consent to run for 10 years as there will be more each year needing felling for public safety reasons. Conservation Area - 25 x Roadside Ash - Fell to ground level. Ash Dieback and at risk of falling in highway. Oak 2. Veteran, (IWC Ref: CS11-03-06/Newtown/TW/341/15/Let1) - Undertake a further 50% crown reduction and removal of large dead branch to reduce leverage to bole. Hollow bole with significant bark dieback and tear to field-side where large branch tore out in 2015. 50% crown reduction in 2015 to reduce leverage on the bole and encourage regeneration in the crown. Oak 3; (IWC Ref as Oak 2) Veteran, hollow with large opening up one side, bark loss and significantly unbalanced crown with major dieback - 50% crown reduction to central regeneration to further reduce leverage to the bowl and reduce risk of further bole fracture. There was a 15% crown reduction in 2015 to reduce leverage on bole and encourage growth in centre of crown, since when there has been further crown dieback, fracturing of the bole and significant dieback in bark but also new regeneration in the centre of the tree.
