Granted Greenwich 26/0561/TC Tree works in a Conservation Area

Works: Trees

Permission granted. Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses.

Proposal

We are seeking permission to prune the Robinia tree in the back garden of our property (12 Congreve Road). We have been advised by JR Wilson Tree Specialists Ltd that the tree has outgrown its surroundings. They recommend a 4-5m overall crown reduction.

What a grant of permission means

The process from here

Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.

Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.

About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.

Tree Identification: 6x Leyland Cypress (Cupressocyparis leylandii) located along the rear boundary - remove six Leylandii at the end of our garden - extensive loss of foliage and die back. I consulted with a qualified arborist, Jim Quaife, in August 2023, who confirmed that the trees were in a state of terminal decline. - have continued to deteriorate and now present both a visual eyesore and a potential safety hazard due to the brittle, dead wood. - To maintain privacy as requested by the neighbour, we will immediately erect a 1.8m (6ft) close-board fence on the border following the removal of the trees.

The very large white popular (Populus alba) has a large limb growing over the property roof. The end of the limb has a large rot pocket it and the rotten centre has fallen out nearly hitting the residents child playing under the tree. There is still a lot of growth and weight on the end of the limb and there is a very strong fear the limb may fail either damaging the property or hitting the residents child playing of family in the driveway. I strongly suggest the limb is reduced by around 2mtrs back to sound wood again to eliminate the risk of future snap outs. As this work is extremely high priority can I request it on a 5 day emergency decision.

The apple tree (malus domestica) in question is completely dead and needs to be removed as branches are now falling from it and there are small children laying around n the garden regularly. Can this be put on an emergency 5 day responce due to the trees condition please. The client has agreed to do plant like for like in a new location to make sure there is nothing in the soil that has caused the tree to decline so rapidly.

Fell Olive tree in raised front garden very close to the side wall of the garage. A structural surveyor noted that the root system of the tree is pushing against this wall, and has caused cracks to appear, and indicated that the removal of this tree is necessary to preserve the wall from further damage.
