Works: Trees
Permission granted. Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses.
Proposal
We wish to prune a Laurel hedge and a Leylandii tree so that excessive growth is cut back and dead wood removed. Leylandii tree reduction: to reduce the height by up to 6 metres. The tree has large areas of dysfunctional and decaying wood, with dead foliage on lower branches and distributed around the upper branches, leading to brown discolouration. Laurel bush reduction: cutting back excessive growth by up to 4 metres to reduce height and allow light into garden to permit growth of other species. All work as per application approved in May 2024 and not yet carried out, but coppicing where necessary to remove dead wood or insect infestation.

T1 Silver birch - fell to ground level and grind out root plate - less than six feet away from the front of the owners' property and double the height, several small cavities around the base of the primary stem, large number of cankerous growths all over the tree at every branch union and even along the secondary and tertiary stems in significant numbers right throughout the canopy - the tree has gone from shedding small wispy growth to losing larger stems from all over the canopy. clearly in decline and, given that silver birches are pioneer species and not long-lived. A replacement will be planted within roughly the same location.

STREET RECORD, THE KEEP, BLACKHEATH, LONDON SE3 0AG
Elm (part of H1 on Survey) - fell. Reasons - growing in a raised border behind a retaining wall. It has been allowed to outgrow the hedge within which it sits and is now physically pushing against the wall. It will cause damage to the wall, which separates The Keep from the railway line, if left to its own devices. Arbutus (T001 on Survey) - Thin internal growth and remove crossing branches. Cut back from street light to give 1m clearance. Soft Maple (T9 on Survey) - Reduce to old points. Reduce height by 4m from 12m to 8m and radial spread by 3m from 6m to 3m all round.

GRASS VERGE OUTSIDE 11 THE KEEP, BLACKHEATH, LONDON, SE3 0AG
T4 Walnut - fell to ground level. As can be clearly seen from one of the photos, the surface dwelling roots of the Juglans are lifting the footpath and have become a trip hazard. Until now, the residents were happy to keep the tree as it adds to the streetscene in the locality. However, Openreach are now installing fibre optic broadband across the entire Cator Estate and the path under which the roots reside is going to be dug up to accommodate this upgrade. Thus, as noted in the Tree Survey, the tree needs to be removed as it would be unsafe to retain given the extensive root pruning that is required.

T1 & T2 Quercus robur - a repeat of the works approved in October 2022 (22/3412/TC). To prune all adventitious growth along primary and secondary stems only. No primary, secondary or tertiary stems will be removed. Just want to improve the light levels into the garden.

The very large white popular (Populus alba) has a large limb growing over the property roof. The end of the limb has a large rot pocket it and the rotten centre has fallen out nearly hitting the residents child playing under the tree. There is still a lot of growth and weight on the end of the limb and there is a very strong fear the limb may fail either damaging the property or hitting the residents child playing of family in the driveway. I strongly suggest the limb is reduced by around 2mtrs back to sound wood again to eliminate the risk of future snap outs. As this work is extremely high priority can I request it on a 5 day emergency decision.

The apple tree (malus domestica) in question is completely dead and needs to be removed as branches are now falling from it and there are small children laying around n the garden regularly. Can this be put on an emergency 5 day responce due to the trees condition please. The client has agreed to do plant like for like in a new location to make sure there is nothing in the soil that has caused the tree to decline so rapidly.

Fell Olive tree in raised front garden very close to the side wall of the garage. A structural surveyor noted that the root system of the tree is pushing against this wall, and has caused cracks to appear, and indicated that the removal of this tree is necessary to preserve the wall from further damage.
