What a grant of permission means

The process from here

Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.

Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.

About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.

Catalpa (T3) - reduce size of canopy by 2 metres (from 4 to 2 metres spread away from main stem in all directions), back to suitable growth points. White Ash (T4) - remove 3 secondary stems as per photograph from left hand stem, reduce by 1m and thin thorugh max 20% where necessary. This is to reduce the sense of enclosure in this part of the garden as the tree has now grown right over the grassed area into the canopy of a neighbouring Whitebeam. Prunus spp. (T5) - reduce width of the canopy (across the back boundary with Blackheath High School Sports Ground) by up to 1 metre in both directions and thin crown by 20%.

Mountain Ash to the front garden. The leaves and foliage to approx 1/3 of the tree have turned brown and shrivelled rapidly with the foliage given a scorched burned appearance. Please see two photos: the first taken 10.07.26 and the other today 27.07.26. demonstrating the rapid decline of the foliage. Upon initial investigation we believe the trunk to have contracted a bacterial infection. This is one of three. - to remove the dead infected areas. This work should be undertaken in a timely fashion to prevent further spread of the disease.
