Proposal
T1 - Bay tree - Remove to ground level and stump grind to allow replanting. T2 - Apple tree - Remove to ground level. - Apple tree in rear garden The apple tree is in poor condition and showing signs of significant decline. It only came slightly into leaf this growing season, with a very sparse canopy and reduced vigour. The tree has also been historically pruned quite hard, which may have contributed to its current poor condition. There is a considerable amount of deadwood throughout the sparse canopy, including larger dead branches. Overall, the tree appears to be in advanced decline with limited signs of recovery.

Crown raise lowest limb in neighbouring property by approx 1m -1.5m. Reason for works: The proposed works are intended to provide appropriate clearance from the neighbouring properties (Nos. 10 and 12) and the adjacent road, reducing the likelihood of branches coming into contact with the buildings during periods of high winds or continued growth. The tree is a Cypress tree located at the front of 11 Devonshire place, to the right hand side when looking at the house. We would like to replace the tree with a native tree species - either a rowan or a cherry - in order to provide flowers for pollinators in the spring/summer and food for birds in the winter. We would like to do the removal in late (~Nov) 2026, well after the bird breeding season, in order to plant the new tree in early 2027 after the last frosts. The tree itself sits at the boundary of a conservation area.

The tree is a silver birch. We would like to carry out "crown reduction" reducing the height of the tree from ~10m to ~7m. Similarly, we would like to reduce the spread of the crown at the rear to reduce the amount of overhang with our rear neighbours. We will keep the left-right spread similar, only carrying out "crown thinning" in this respect to ensure the tree does not block too much light from our neighbours' gardens and our own.
