Front boundary yew hedge running parallel with the road; remove the front row only closest to the property to ground level. Remaining hedge to be reduced in height by 50% and all remaining profiles to be trimmed. Conservation Area Justification The proposed works are to facilitate the removal and replacement of an existing deteriorating boundary hedge and associated vegetation in order to install a new, more suitable and manageable boundary treatment. The existing mixed species hedge located between Nos. 14 and 16 has become overgrown, uneven in form, and is no longer considered appropriate for its intended boundary function. Removal to approximately 300 mm (1 foot) above ground level is required to allow the safe use of mechanical equipment for stump extraction and preparation of the area for the proposed replacement boundary installation. Works to the front boundary Yew hedge are proposed to retain the majority of the existing screening and visual amenity value whilst allowing sufficient space for the new boundary arrangement. Only the front row of Yew growth nearest the property is to be removed to ground level, with the retained hedge reduced in height by approximately 50% and trimmed on all remaining profiles to restore a manageable, uniform, and sustainable form. The proposed works are considered reasonable arboricultural management and are not expected to have a significant adverse impact on the character or appearance of the Conservation Area. The retained hedge sections will continue to provide screening, soft landscaping, and ecological value, whilst the replacement boundary treatment will improve the long-term usability, maintenance, and presentation of the site. We wish to carry out works on a Magnolia tree at the right hand side of our front garden (as viewed from the pavement) which is close to the border to our neighbours house at No 10 approximately half way between the pavement and the front of our house (see sketch plan attached). Prior to works to make our Yew tree (at the boundary with the pavement) more balanced, the magnolia tree was very much shadowed by the Yew tree and as a result has grown in a very unblanced way making it lopsided. Now that the Yew Tree no longer causes this issue, we hope that the magnolia tree will grow in a more balanced way improving its health, sustainabiity and aesthetic. The contractor who carried out the works on the Yew Tree recommended that we ask for consent to trim the tree by a maximum of 2.5 metres. All works will be carried out by a suitable contractor. The Magnolia tree is not a native species and has been recognised by the LPA as being of less value that the Yew Tree which is subject to a TPO and for which we were given consent for similar works (creating a more balanced tree). Further, consent was previously given to trim back a magnolia tree(s) on our neighbours land at No 6 (also in the front garden). It would therefore seem manifestly unreasonable to refuse my request for consent for the above works. If you wish to carry out a site visit, we have off road parking available on the front.

Consent is requested for works to cut back the Magnolia tree marked on the plan. Prior to works (with permission) carried out to the Yew Tree which is subject to a TPO, this tree was forced to grow in a very lopsidded manner (see photos provided). This tree sits near the right hand side boundary fence with No 10 and has become rather large given its location. We with to cut it back by a maximun if 2.5m on the advice of the contractors we used to cut back the Yew Tree. This is to allow it to grow in a more balanced way and to remove over crowded branches. We expect this will help with the health and aeastghetic of this tree. Consent has previoulsy been obtained to cut back Magnolia trees located within the boundary of our other neighbours at no 6. We would emply suitable contractors to carry out this work at an appropriate time of the year.

The yew tree in question is showing signs of asymmetric crown formation. After previous limb failure causing a structural imbalance to the remaining crown. My proposal for the future vigour of this tree is to Install a dynamic cobra bracing system to support the imbalance of the lower structural limbs forming a strong three way triangulation of support for the lateral growth that has become very prone to wind through. Please see photo (Yew Reduction Points) for bracing points highlighted in blue. Selective thinning of the whole crown by removing internal growth with a maximum cut size of 60mm diameter 1.5m length by removing multiple smaller limbs I believe this will be more beneficial to the trees structure, and limit the amount of large wounds left by the thinning works. Allowing for better wind distribution through the remaining crown hopefully eliminating future wind through. by leaving the larger structural limbs intact for the future longevity of the structural integrity. please see photo (Yew Reduction Points) with cut points highlighted in red for chosen thinning points throughout the crown Remove failed limb back to the branch collar. The failed limb supported by lower crown hazard beam fracturing of the timber 150mm diameter 2.5m length this will be the largest of the limbs to be removed through suggested works. red dotted line on attached photo hard to see the hazard beam on the photo (Yew Reduction Points) Selective reduction of the height maximum of 1m in length 40mm cut size to the crown on selected limbs again highlighted in red so that again the risk of wind through will be reduced.
