Planning application

Summercourt Lodge Hill Exeter Devon EX4 4AB

Granted Exeter 21/0807/TPO Works to Protected Trees (TPO)

Works: Trees

Permission granted. Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses.

Proposal

Sycamore TPO 503 ref T4 at Summercourt, Lodge Hill, EX44AB has had considerable squirrel damage over the past few years. Now, as leaves emerge, it is clear that the large central trunk (one of three) is dead. No leaves appear on this section and also there is a branch from it overhanging the road and a neighbour's property. We are concerned that this could become dangerous and would like to remove all or part of the tree, whichever is deemed suitable by the LPA tree expert.

This ash tree has been suffering from Ash dieback for several years, and now has significant damage to many branches. The tree overhangs both the garden and a driveway to two neighbouring properties, and has had work done in the past to remove overhanging branches (03/0354/TPO). There is a high likelihood of falling branches causing damage or injury. The damage to the tree will inevitably increase over time, so we have been advised by a tree surgeon that the best option would be to remove the tree now and plant a replacement tree in a suitable location. I am attaching separately an email from the tree surgeon explaining his opinion. We therefore want to remove the tree completely, and grind out the tree stump. Once the tree has been removed, we will decide the most appropriate location for a replacement tree, and the most appropriate species.
