Awaiting decision Epsom and Ewell Consent for Works to Preserved Trees

Proposal

T1 & T2: 2x Silver Birch - Reduce overall canopy by approximately 2m to appropriate growth points, following BS3998 standards. Remove lowest branch growing on the North-Western side, to cut back the tree from the building. The aim of the reduction is to provide clearance form the building and keep the trees managed at a reasonable size before harsher pruning would be required, that the Birches may not be able to tolerate. T3:Cherry - Reduce overall canopy by 1m to appropriate growth points, following BS3998 standards. Cut back from the building as hard as the trees naturally allows. Remove major deadwood for safety purposes. The aim of the reduction is to keep trees managed at a smaller size whilst next to buildings to prevent a harsher prune being needed in the future. T4:Cherry - Reduce overall canopy by 1m to appropriate growth points, following BS3998 standards. Cut back from the building as hard as the trees naturally allows. Remove major deadwood for safety purposes. The aim of the reduction is to keep trees managed at a smaller size whilst next to buildings to prevent a harsher prune being needed in the future. T5:Cherry - Reduce overall canopy by 1m to appropriate growth points, following BS3998 standards. Cut back from the building as hard as the trees naturally allows. Remove major deadwood for safety purposes. The aim of the reduction is to keep trees managed at a smaller size whilst next to buildings to prevent a harsher prune being needed in the future. T6 & T7: 2x Sycamore- Reduce overall canopy by approximately 1-1.5m to appropriate growth points, following BS3998 standards. Remove all major deadwood of 25mm in diameter or larger. Second tree along has considerable signs of dieback to the top of the crown. The aim of the reduction is to keep the trees managed and safe, before larger pruning wounds are required. T8:Sycamore - Reduce overall canopy by approximately 1-1.5m to appropriate growth points, following BS3998 standards.

What happens while it is decided

The process from here

This application is with Epsom and Ewell for determination. The council publicises it, consults neighbours and technical bodies where required, and weighs the responses against local and national planning policy.

The statutory target is eight weeks for most applications and thirteen for major development, though extensions of time are common. Comments carry most weight while the case is undecided, so check the council portal for the deadline if you want to respond.

About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.
