What a grant of permission means
The process from here
Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.
Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.
About advertising applications
How this application type works
Advertisement consent controls signs, hoardings and other adverts. The council may only judge two things: amenity, meaning the effect on the appearance of the building and area, and public safety, chiefly whether a sign distracts road users or obstructs sight lines. Other planning considerations, such as competition between businesses, do not apply.

Tree Preservation Order EL:90/24 - T1 Oak tree- Reduce the entire crown back to previously permitted areas approximately 2.5 - 3 metres. Height is 13m, leave height at 10m. Width is 11m, leave at 8m. Remove all major dead wood. The tree has been dropping branches during winds onto vehicles parked below. Light into the property is hugely reduced during the Spring & summer months when tree is with foliage. Moss on the roof around the area where the tree is has to be cleaned regularly as do the leaves & acorns which in a good year will drop acorns onto the vehicles. The client would like to reduce the likely hood of damage. Tree Preservation Order EL:08/12 - T2 Beech tree- Trim back all branches overhanging the property boundary back to previously permitted pruning points. Approximately 2.5 - 3m. Permission has been obtained from tree owner. This tree drops a lot of debris onto this property and starves the gardens plants of light. By reducing this side it would allow the lower plants & shrubs to prosper.

Tree Preservation Order EL:09/24 - T1: Tree Species: English Oak (Quercus robur) Approximate Dimensions: Height 13-14m | Spread: N 6m, E 5m, S 6m, W 4m Proposed Works Crown reduction of approximately 1.5 metres to overall height, bringing the tree from its current height of approximately 13 metres to approximately 11.5 metres, with lateral reduction of 1m. All pruning cuts to be made back to suitable growth points in accordance with BS 3998:2010. Reason for Works The tree has been subject to excessive crown lifting, resulting in a significant clear stem and a crown mass concentrated well above the point of maximum leverage. This has reduced the tree's ability to dissipate wind load through lower branch structure, increasing reliance on the upper crown and stem to absorb dynamic loading with little downwards leverage. Given the tree's proximity to the adjacent dwelling, a modest reduction of 1.5 metres to the crown, with lateral reduction of up to 1 metre, is proposed to reduce sail area and end-loading on the primary scaffold limbs. This is a proportionate management measure aimed at reducing the risk of wind-throw or structural failure, while retaining the tree's form, amenity value, and long-term contribution to the streetscene. Works will be limited to appropriate pruning points.
