Tree Preservation Order ESH:94 - Description of Works: Carry out a 3metre crown reduction to the horse chestnut tree. This will reduce the canopy spread by approximately 3m on all sides, with particular focus on branches overhanging the public highway and our residential driveway. Works will include reducing lateral branches to suitable growth points, maintaining a balanced natural crown form, and removing deadwood or unstable material. All works will comply with BS3998:2010. Reasons for Works (Health & Safety): The tree is shedding large, heavy conkers directly over both the public road and our driveway, creating a clear and ongoing risk of injury. On 12th September, a falling conker struck and injured my 3yearold daughter. Another neighbour has reported being hit by a large falling conker, and Mrs Grey of 16 Wayneflete Tower Avenue experienced a near miss on 12th September. These incidents demonstrate a repeated hazard. The tree fully overhangs the road, leaving no safe pedestrian route that avoids the fall zone. Several elderly neighbours cannot move quickly enough to avoid sudden falls of heavy conkers when being assisted on walks by their carers and have commented on the hazard. Our driveway is a high transit area that we must use daily, meaning the hazard cannot be avoided. A 3m crown reduction is a proportionate for the large size and spread of this this tree and targeted safety measure that will significantly reduce risk while retaining the tree's amenity value.
