Field 400M South Of Grange Farm Cottages Ramsholt Road Alderton Suffolk
Prior Notification (Agricultural) - A balanced cut and fill earth moving operation to create an irrigation reservoir. The clay from beneath the site will be engineered into the water tight linning. The banks will be topsoiled and planted with grass. No materials will be brought onto or leave the site. Informal discussions with Suffolk County Archaeology suggests a trenching investigation will be requested. Why necessary for agriculture: Most of the farm is on light sand land which must have irrigation if it is to be used for vegeatable cropping. The Bawdsey Hydrocyle project will deliver water to a number of planned reservoirs on the peninsula, water that would otherwise be pumped to sea from the Internal Drainage Board pump at Bawdsey. There is extreme water pressure on existing direct summer abstraction licenses, all of which are expected to be cut back in the future, this will necessitate reservoir storage if high value vegetable cropping is to continue axcross the light lands of the Suffolk coast. Why designed for agriculture: The reservoir is situated close to the propsoed Hydrocyucle pipeline which will deliver water to a number of farm reservoirs in the area. A poweer supply is adjacent allowing high pressure distribution across the farm.
