Trees Between Linden Grove and Pine Grove Chester

Granted Cheshire West and Chester Trees

Proposal

Reducing canopy by 4m of 12x Hornbeam trees which have stem defects such as included unions, excessive lean over property and/or increased exposure. Dismantle 1x Hornbeam which is excessively leaning, supressed by larger specimens and has no scope for a suitable reduction. Dismantle Beech with significant hollow stem with significant chance of failure, minimal scope for suitable reduction of species. Fell dead Pine. Reduce Beech by 4m with historic bark wound and decay to stem. Reduce 3x Oak by 2m with asymmetrical canopy, leaning to property to balance canopy and reduce windsail and encroachment.

What a grant of permission means

The process from here

Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.

Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.

About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.

Oak (T1) - crown lift to 4m and reduce the branches by 3m which would leave 50% of the crown intact because of excessive shading to 3 & 2 Hornbeam Close and has low amenity value. Some of the low hanging branches are currently head height of a tall person and extend towards the back of 3 Hornbeam Close - squirrels have been nesting in the roof space.
