What a grant of permission means

The process from here

Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.

Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.

About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.

There are some trees outside my property, one of these trees in particular is well overgrown. It towers the other trees on the same land and is extremely imposing. I have spoken with other neighbours and we would like this tree to be crowned in length with the others and some of the branches trimmed back.

T1 - Turkey Oak, crown topping required due to excessive height and it's leaning towards the house. Aim to reduce to same size as horse chestnut on the other side of the lawn. T2 - Horse chestnut with some "illness" to trunk. The leaves appear to be healthy this year but have previously been brown and yellow with a smell to them. You can push your fingers into the trunk which is soft. T3 - Sycamore which is too tall and we would like the height reduced. The tree seems unstable in high winds and has lost some large branches to their side of the A41 which could result in injury. It's very tall and thin and covered in ivy. We do not wish to fell any of the trees, we just want permission to crown top to an acceptable and safe height, however we need professional inspection of T2.
