Planning application
LA01/2026/0384/F
Site located adjacent to Portrush Recycling Centre, The Bowl, Causeway Street, Portrush.
Proposal
The proposal requests to change the use of the site from a Major Area of Open Space to a motorhome parking site operating on a seasonal basis between April and October. The development will include the installation of an automatic, access-controlled barrier at the existing entrance. A 1.2m-high stock fence will be contructed to enclose the defined site boundary. In addition, a cleaners store and a sluice facility for waste disposal will be provided. The existing site grass will retained, hard standing will be provided to the site entrance and front of the sluice and cleaners store, bollard lighting will be installed across the site in line with the proposed layout and electrical plans.

What a grant of permission means
The process from here
Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.
Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.
About full applications applications
How this application type works
A full application seeks permission for a complete, detailed proposal in one go: siting, design, access and landscaping are all fixed at this stage. It is the standard route for new buildings, conversions and changes of use. The statutory target is eight weeks for smaller schemes and thirteen weeks for major development, though complex cases often take longer by agreement.
