Group 16 and trees 4734 and 4735 along east boundary of sports field - Red Horse Chestnut (10) - Trees poorly formed and suppressing and preventing the natural development of better quality Beech. Fell Chestnuts to ground level to thin group and encourage beech to attain their full design potential. Reason - For reasons of good arboricultural management. (Llandaff Conservation Area). 4645 - Unsuitable species for long term retention. Large surface roots. Multi-stemmed at ground level. With included bark. Broad spreading crown form. 26/00177/WTTPF Granted
The Cathedral School Cardiff Road Llandaff Cardiff CF5 2YH
Sycamore 4730. North of Cricket Pavilion. Tree recently exposed as a result of the loss of more dominant adjacent Ash. Tree developed on top of fill material and collapsing rubble-filled stone retaining wall, which is eroding further during storm conditions. Wall repairs are unachievable with tree in situ. Crown weighted towards the pavilion, seating area and sports pitches. Previously reduced. Tree of questionable stability and of low quality. Potentially protected by City of Cardiff (Llandaff) TPO 1961, combined: 2/G17 and Llandaff Conservation Area. Proposed - Fell to ground level, rebuild wall. Install new replacement trees and understorey planting along bank. Reason - Minimise threat of inadvertent collapse as a result of catastrophic collapse of the stone wall, removal of a poor quality tree and provide additional space for new replacement trees to diversify the age class and species mix of trees along the bank. School-wide - multiple species but mainly Beech and Sycamore - See report. Reduce to stabilise or remove squirrel-damaged branches where they overhang paths, play areas, buildings and parking bays, resulting in an increased risk of failure, damage to property or injury to staff, visitors and pupils. Reason - Good Arboricultural Management and a reduction in the risk of harm.
