Proposal
Proposed Works 1. Crown Lifting (Secondary/Tertiary Branches Only): Extent: To achieve a uniform crown lift to approximately 3.5 ? 4 metres above ground level, over the area adjacent to the neighbouring boundary. Branch Selection: Only secondary and tertiary branches to be removed/pruned. No removal of primary scaffold limbs. See included marked up photo Branch Diameter Limit: No cuts to exceed 50mm in diameter. Purpose: To raise the canopy marginally to alleviate encroachment concerns, while retaining sufficient lower foliage for crown dampening and tree balance. 2. Selective Crown Reduction (Lower Crown Only): Extent: Reduction of selected lateral limbs overhanging the neighbouring property. Reduction Amount: No more than 1.5?2 metres per branch. Branch Details: Provide a schedule identifying each branch proposed for reduction, including: Approximate diameter at cut point (not to exceed 75mm), Targeting: Focus on branches contributing most to the overhang while avoiding over-thinning. 3. General Notes: All works to comply fully with BS 3998:2010 ? Tree Work ? Recommendations. All pruning cuts to be made to appropriate growth points (i.e., lateral branches at least one-third the diameter of the parent). Works to be carried out by a qualified arborist

The process from here
Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.
Work must normally begin within five years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.
About trees applications
How this application type works
Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.
