Planning application

9 KING WILLIAM IV GARDENS, PENGE, LONDON, SE20 7EG

Granted Bromley 25/04597/TCA Notification of proposed works to trees in a conservation area

Works: Trees Small domestic

Read from the description, not a valuation. How we read the register

Permission granted. Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses.

Proposal

T1 Cherry - Remove all dead/burnt branches on the eastern side of canopy. Selectively reduce the 3-4 overlong shoots on the remainder of the tree back into the main canopy outline to create a more rounded canopy shape, sections of approximately 2m removed. T2 Indian Bean tree - Raise canopy height by 1m to improve clearance over buildings and neighbouring gardens. Thin by 10%. Remove all large diameter dead branches. T3 Large Poplar on the boundary - Reduce by 4-5m from tips to create a more compact and manageable framework going forward, taking canopy height from approximately 18m to 14m and width from 8m to 6m. T4 Multi-stemmed Bay tree right up against the boundary wall and overhanging neighbouring gardens - Reduce right down by approximately 30%, 4-5m from tips, to create a more compact and safer framework to be allowed to regenerate, taking canopy height from approximately 12m to 7m and width from 10m to 5m. T5 Sycamore - Strip ivy down to ground level and remove lower trunk epicormic growth.

What a grant of permission means

The process from here

Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.

Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.

About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.
