What a grant of permission means

The process from here

Permission has been granted, usually subject to conditions listed on the decision notice, some of which must be discharged before work starts. The decision notice on the council portal sets out exactly what was approved.

Work must normally begin within three years of the decision or the permission lapses. Neighbours cannot appeal a grant; challenging one means judicial review of how the decision was made, within tight time limits.

About trees applications

How this application type works

Tree applications cover work to protected trees: those under a tree preservation order need consent for pruning or felling, and trees in a conservation area need six weeks written notice before work starts. The council assesses the amenity value of the tree and can refuse consent, approve it with conditions, or in conservation areas make a preservation order in response.

T1 Sycamore. Multi-stemmed tree. Central limb significantly decayed at base - approx 1/3rd of radial thickness of stem remains as sound wood when probed. When examined with a nylon mallet, resonance was typical of a hollowing cavity. Application is to remove central, decayed stem to origin at approx 1.5m from ground. This stem is approx 400mm diameter. Surrounding, remaining 4 stems are between approx 600-800mm diameter. Other defects, decay and atypical morphology exist around the base of the tree. A further survey is scheduled for when the tree is in leaf to establish physiological health. Cobra bracing is to be installed in the Spring. Deadwood above 25mm to be removed.

T1 - Bay laurel - fell tree. Tree is causing structural damage to our boundary wall, and also to the roof and guttering of our neighbours garage block. Previous pruning has made no difference and damage has worsened. Tree also overhangs parking bays, and has low amenity value. We have recently planted 8 new cypress trees along the adjacent wall of our car park (T7 through T14 on plan) which more than replace this one tree and greatly improve the overall look of the grounds. T4 - Cherry - fall tree. Tree is unhealthy, including a significant cavity at its base and leans heavily towards a heavily used parking space. We believe it is in danger of falling, with damage to parked cars (or worse) if we have more strong winds next winter. We have already planted one replacement tree in a more suitable area (T6 on plan), and are considering one other replacements in the vicinity of T4 but closer to the lawn further back from the parking area.

Back Boundary Middle Tree T1 - Sycamore Fell as close to ground level as possible. Apply systemic herbicide to stump to prevent re-growth. The self-set tree's location is very close to a listed wall and is starting to cause minor damage. Tree also overhangs the car park to neighbouring property and is dropping small branches. By removing the tree would resolve both these issues.

T1 Sycamore- remove 3 epicormic stems at the base of the tree (approx diameter 10 cms each) Reduce central top height of the tree by 2 meters and reshape the crown all around. Reasons- the tree has not been worked on for some time and it is cutting out light at the back of the property and for other properties in the vicinity. It is a very tall tree for the confined space that it is in.
