Tree 3: Is another Leylandii Cypress tree with one limb that severely overhangs the Vestry of the Church and the application is to remove the branch to prevent any damage to the Church.

This application is in regards to a small plantation of several tree species situated at the rear of 14a Fritchley Lane, Fritchley, Derbyshire. The plantation is surrounded by residential properties, a few of whom have complained about overhanging trees at their properties. On several occasions, residents have cut away numerous branches from trees in order to get more light and reduce leaf mess into their own gardens. Obviously, this work is being carried out without authorisation and expertise. Initially, the owner has asked for permission to remove all overhanging branches around the plantation at a distance of 2 meters from the boundary and only up to a height of 5 meters. This work would not involve the removal of any trees at ground level around the boundary and would not aesthetically affect the crown of the trees. It is hoped that this will prevent the ad-hoc removal or hacking of branches from the trees around the whole plantation. Secondly, the owner has asked permission to remove numerous small self setting trees within the woodland, mainly Holly. This is in order to encourage natural regeneration and growth of low ground cover. It will prevent competition for space, light and nutrients. This involves no removal of any mature trees.

Tree 1- Green leaved flowering cherry. Plan is to fell the tree as it is in poor health and there is a pronounced lean towards the house. Over the last few years there has been a significant reduction in foliage and very little fruit in marked contrast to previous years. It has recently been examined by arborist Kurt Elliott (Pennine Gardens and Trees) who confirms it to be a ???sick tree???. See photos TW24Photo 01, 02, 03, 14. Tree 2- Tall fir tree, believed to be a used Christmas tree which was planted next to the house. Plan is to fell the tree for a number of reasons. Firstly it is very tall (estimated 9-10m) and growing rapidly meaning it would pose a major risk to ours and neighbouring properties should it ever be blown down. In addition its lower branches are now encroaching on the barbeque shelter which has already had a cracked slate from a falling branch. Also the needles drop and fill the guttering causing blockages. It is growing on the top of a bank made of rubble and some of its roots are now exposed on the bank. The shade it casts is depriving the adjacent orchard trees of light and the root system is also likely to be taking water away from them. We have a single conifer (Leylandii) on the boundary of our property which is also the boundary of the conservation area. This tree has two trunks and increasingly leans into our boundary fence that we share with a neighbour. This has damaged a series of fence panels in recent months. I am unsure of the trees age but it was well grown when we moved into the property in 2003. It has been seen by a tree surgeon who has advised removal of the tree. Both of the neighbours at the back have asked for its removal due to the fence issue and also a concern about it possibly falling into their buildings as it leans more than it used to. On the map I have indicated our property (yellow highlight) and the tree position is marked in red.
