Ash (T1) - Fell. Previous application was granted in 2014/15 to dismantle tree retaining a 4m stem. The tree owner now wishes to remove the tree completely and re-plant. The tree has a significant cavity at 2.5m caused by previous limb loss. The phototropic growth prior to the development of the site has resulted in a very extended lever arm of the main stem which now extends over neighboring properties. Due to the cavity being located in the 'hot spot' for failure removal and replacement would be more appropriate than retaining a poor specimen of 4m stem with no natural canopy. Although the cavity is likely to only reduce the safety factor by max 29% in accordance with Matthek and Breloer (1995), the extended lever arm and position of the cavity is likely to lead to mechanical failure. A reduction is therefore not appropriate due to the species reacting vigorously to pruning and thus increasing the windsail and mechanical stresses on the 'hot-spot'.
