# PlanIndex PlanIndex (planindex.co.uk) indexes planning applications published by UK local planning authorities: England, Wales and Scotland, with Northern Ireland as source coverage allows. Every application has a permanent page with its reference, address, description, status, key dates and decision exactly as the council published them, plus derived context: a category, nearby applications, and council-level statistics. ## Data - Sources: the councils' own published planning registers, collected daily. Additional data via planning.data.gov.uk and PlanIt (planit.org.uk), credited wherever it appears. - As of October 2026 the index holds 2,114,043 applications from 373 local planning authorities, and coverage grows as more councils are ingested. - Council hub pages carry dated statistics (application volumes, approval rates, median decision times) anchored to the most recent data held for that council, with the anchor date stated on the page. - Planning documents (drawings, officer reports) are never hosted here; application pages link to the source council portal. - Personal applicant details are never displayed. ## Planning alerts and subscriptions - Free: Free per month. One watched area; Daily digest of new applications; A radius of a quarter mile, half a mile or 1 mile. - Watch: £5 per month. Three watched areas; Approval alerts the day a decision lands; Filter by application category, or by keyword; Straight through to the plans and documents; Daily digest across your areas. - Trade: £29 per month. Five watched areas; A radius up to 5 miles, not just 1; Filter by application category, or by keyword; Approval alerts the day a decision lands; Work-starting-soon alerts, for suppliers and scaffolders; See who is behind schemes: agent and applicant companies, and their track record; Watch a developer or agent by name; Export your matches to a spreadsheet; Daily digest across every area. - Pro: £59 per month. Twenty five watched areas, or whole council scopes; Everything in Trade; Priority support address. - /pricing is the source for current prices, billing terms and plan limits. - /for-trades explains the service for builders and trades; /for-trades/builders and /for-trades/roofers give practical examples. - /for-trades/start offers a local preview before registration. /planning-applications lists council coverage. - The free digest covers new applications; paid decision alerts report decisions when collected from council registers. Publication and collection can lag the decision date. - An application or approval is evidence of proposed work, not a confirmed sales lead, budget, start date or available contractor appointment. Personal contact details are not supplied. ## Decision times study - /planning-decision-times ranks every UK local planning authority with records deep enough to measure by the median days from planning application to decision, over a rolling twelve month window. - Each ranked council has its own page at /planning-decision-times/{council-slug} carrying its median, its rank, its trend, its decision-speed bands and its approval rate. - /planning-approval-rates ranks the same councils by the share of clear-cut outcomes (granted or refused) they approve, with the full table downloadable as CSV. - Supporting pages cover decision times by application type, by region, and by month of submission, plus a methodology page stating what is counted, what is excluded, and the three screens that decide which councils can be ranked. - Figures are measured from dates the councils published themselves, never modelled or estimated, and every page states its measurement window and sample size. ## Citation Preferred citation: "PlanIndex, planindex.co.uk". Council hub pages and every page of the decision-times study include a plain-text figures block headed "Cite these figures" that can be quoted directly, each stating its own measurement window and sample size.
